Ok guys I know I haven’t started the Video posts on the Blogger blog series, but I wanted to add this tutorial on how to use your domain in conjunction with the Google Blogspot A.K.A Blogger and set it all up. Remember you just basically set up a site as you normally would, then you go login to blogger and follow the rest of the steps in my video.
Let me know if you have any questions and I will answer them as best as possible. Its quite simple so most of you shouldn’t have any problem.
Once your done you might actually want to use the site as an ebay affiliate site, and if so I recommend yougo head on over to see Frank at Optempo who made a nice post with a blogger theme for Ebay.

Thanks Justin, I wouldn’t have known how to do that without your video.
Just curious why you recommend using the IP address rather that the domain ftp address?
Also, would that be the reseller account IP. Not sure I understand this part.
I knew someone would be asking me that question. I really don’t want to get into all the technical aspects of that, but lets just say it has to do with DNS settings, and its always safer to go with the IP rather than the domain name itself.
maybe dumb question but what is the benefit of using your own hosting instead of blogger hosting??
OK. “safer to go with the IP” is good enough for me. I probably wouldnt completely understand the technical aspects anyhow.
By the way, I forgot to thank you for the tutorial. Thanks.
Justin,
Would you be able to clarify a little what you meant by “not looking at the domain in the browser?” Does this mean not to type the domain name into the browser after the steps shown in the tutorial have been followed? If so, at what point would you suggest we check to see if the domain name has been set up properly.
Looking forward to your input.
Thank you for the tutorial.
Basically Sunshine, if you type your domain in your browser and go look at it before the DNS is propegated then your ISP will cache what you have viewed. That means you have to wait until they clear their cache before you can look at your site again unless you go through a proxy, cause all you will see is the cached page from your ISP even though you have set it all up.
.info domains maybe.
Hi Justin,
not related to video but I read may be in court blog that using blogger is not a good idea as you can not sell it in future etc.
you suggest wordpress or blogger. thanks. video as always crisp. I like the way you slowly explain so people like me can follow. Hope vic follows your style. LOL.
Well you could sell this one if you wanted to. Why not? The whole thing is not hosted at blogger. You are just using their platform is all, so it really does not matter. Plus you can always add another person to have admin rights, then take yourself off and bam its their site. Not really tough at all to do that.
Thanks Justin this is really useful. Someone mentioned in the video at Vics about having their .infos with names in them. Is there a problem with this. I know now we shouldn’t but if we already have them is it a problem?
Thanks for being so helpful in so many ways.
Hey Justin,
Your video tutorials are so calm. Love it. Thanks for explaining it so well. I am looking forward to putting it into practice.
I don’t really see a problem. If a company sees some kind of name in the domain and asks me to get rid of it I will.
Thanks Diane. I guess I get really serious when its video time.
Hi Justin:
I agree with the previous posters above, your calm voice is easy to listen to and almost hypnotic = {must follow Justin’s commands…}
Please bear with me on this question, but could explain how to add the “blog folder” to my site? I have the Hostgator Reseller account, did the basics on getting all of my .infos set up and running but adding anything extra to the mix is a mystery to me.
Thanks in advance!
You should be able to log into cpanel then go to file manager. From there you would go to public_html and within that area you would click on the “create new folder” option. Once you have done that, then when you go over to setup things with blogger you would add something like “/blog” or “/folder name” in the area I show you it could be added in the video.
Hope that helps!
Justin, great video and it worked great for me but… When I checked out the site I realized I wanted to change the layout: the layout option of blogger doesn’t appear to work with the external ftp hosting: it appears that either you can host on blogger or you an use the layout feature to customize the blog e.g. remove elements in the sidebar , but you can’t combine the 2. Is that right?
Yep the layout has to be changed from within blogger. You will have to manipulate the code to change things around.
Hi JC
I have a problem I hope you can help with and I appologise for it being of topic.
I have upgraded my Hostgator account from Baby Croc to a reseller account. The trouble is I have 9 .infos as a subdomains of the 10th .info.
Is there a way I can make them stand alone domains rather subdomains as they are now?
Hope you can help.
Allthe best - John
John, sorry to tell you but you cannot convert them over. You will have to recreate the accounts in the reseller account and make them manually.
Has anyone tried converting bans to pepperjam and seeing great results?
Hi JC,
Me again. I have a problem, a good one I think, I have bought a nine year old domain that has links, content and if I’m right page rank. All good. The problem is I do not know the best way to proceed, and here’s why.
The domain belonged to an American telecoms company (a large one), this company changed their name and built a new web site but did not renewed the old domain (now mine).
What should I do? Their logo even shows on my url.
If I build a WP site with this domain, am I allowed to copy the cached pages that are showing for my domain and post them on my site?
Hope you don’t mined me asking this here, but apart from Vic (whose busy) I didn’t know who else to ask.
All the best - John
OK John I really can’t give you legal advice, but I can tell you that if you recreate the exact URL you should be ok as long as you reword the content and just leave it in the same niche. Once again… Im no legal expert here so I really can’t say one way or the other. I have had no problem with this in the past, and most of the time if there were an issue they would just ask you to remove the content.
WoW this is perfect for the new bloggers great work man.. keep it up
Justin,
all I get is an ugly white page \"Index Of /\"
Looking back on it, I didn\’t click on \"view blog\" at the end of the process, could taht be the source of the f*** up?
Nevermind, fixed
